Church Security Team Training

Church Security TrainingA suspicious man walks into your church on Sunday morning. You have a bad feeling about him, but you don’t want to be judgmental or rude. So you go about your business.

Moments later, he pulls out a gun and opens fire in the sanctuary. You watch helplessly as he savagely kills innocent men, women, and children. What will you do? How will you live with yourself knowing you might have stopped him but didn’t. And when the media arrives, what will you say?

Sadly, most churches don’t plan for this type of horrific event until someone gets injured or killed. Many are not aware, but the church is liable for the well-being of those who are on church property – this is called due diligence or due care. Because church-related violence is on the increase, many churches are now answering God’s burden to establish a safety team to provide physical protection to the flock.

Is this a real threat? Watch these disturbing news reports:

This could have been YOUR church! The question is, are you prepared to deal with an event like this? You could prevent such a tragedy with a properly trained church security team in place!

Is it biblical to form a church security team?

The answer is yes. Consider the following Scriptures:

Isaiah 62:6 – I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; They shall never hold their peace day or night.

Nehemiah 4:9, 17, 18 – Nevertheless we made our prayer to our God, and because of them we set a watch against them day and night. 17 Those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon. 18 Every one of the builders had his sword girded at his side as he built.

Romans 13:4 – For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.

1 Chronicles 9:21-24 – Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was keeper of the door of the tabernacle of meeting. 22 All those chosen as gatekeepers were two hundred and twelve. They were recorded by their genealogy, in their villages. David and Samuel the seer had appointed them to their trusted office. 23 So they and their children were in charge of the gates of the house of the LORD, the house of the tabernacle, by assignment. 24 The gatekeepers were assigned to the four directions: the east, west, north, and south.

Ecclesiastes 3: 1, 3, 8 – 1 – To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 3A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; 8A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
