I have constructed some really affordable shooting stands. Each stand costs about $10 to build. They are made out of 1 1/2” PVC pipe. I have 1x 2’s stuck in the pipes, and they are IDPA target width. Of course, you can adjust the width very easily but using different lengths for the cross section.

In addition, if wind is an issue where you are shooting, simply drill some holes through the top on each side (front and back). Then drive some metal “stakes” through the holes and you now have a wind resistant target. There is no need for sand or concrete in the pipe if you drill holes and use stakes!

It takes a lot more time to go and buy the materials to build one of these stands than it does to actually build one. I think that I spent under 7 minutes building one!

You can use whatever size of wood you want, but make sure that you can put it down all the way through the “T” and hit the bottom support leg so it is sturdier. No matter what size of wood you choose to use, make sure you “size” it before you buy it! That is, the wood goes down smoothly or even just a little tight!

Enjoy!
